KUCHING, 16 October 2017 – The rich cultural narrative and enduring contributions of Indian women in Sarawak were formally chronicled today with the launch of the Sarawak Indian Women Association (SIWA)’s coffee table book, Sarawak Indian Women Heritage.
The prestigious launch ceremony was officiated by the Head of State, His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Hj Abdul Taib Mahmud, at the Astana, his official residence.1
The book, a flagship project of SIWA, serves as a testament to the community’s history, showcasing the achievements and legacy of Indian women who have helped shape Sarawak’s unique multicultural landscape.
[As noted by Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development YB Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah in a later statement, the book’s publication was cited as one of the most cherished achievements of SIWA’s leadership, capturing a piece of history for future generations.] The event marked a proud milestone for SIWA, solidifying the importance of the Indian community’s heritage within the broader context of Sarawakian society.
