New Website Launch Out to Help Empower Indian Women via Digitalization

About Event

KUCHING (Feb 9): The launch of the Sarawak Indian Women’s Association (SIWA)’s official website marks an important step forward in strengthening women’s empowerment through digitalization.

Speaking at the launching ceremony in a hotel here yesterday, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said women’s empowerment required consistent action involving communities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as those from the public and private sectors.

“Associations such as SIWA play an important role in bridging national policies and the real needs on the ground.

“SIWA’s official website provides a platform for sharing accurate information, engaging the stakeholders and protecting the public from misinformation and scams.

“In today’s digital era, having a trusted and verified online presence is no longer optional,” said the Santubong MP in her speech.

Nancy also described the initiative as being aligned with the National Women’s Policy and Women’s Development Action Plan 2025-2030 – emphasising digital literacy, entrepreneurship and greater participation of women in modern economy.

Adding on, the federal minister commended SIWA for its contributions over more than 20 years in improving the welfare, skills and confidence of Indian women in Sarawak.

“This transparency builds trust, strengthens partnerships and opens the door for greater collaboration,” she said.

Nancy also expressed hope that the website would serve as a platform for the association to expand its reach, showcase its initiatives and connect with partners locally and internationally.

Also present was SIWA president Penghulu Lucy Lingam.
