Sarawak, India Enhance Women Cooperation

NEW DELHI: Sarawak and India has strengthened cooperation on women-centred development and child wellbeing during a courtesy call, reflecting shared priorities in advancing empowerment and social development initiatives.

Sarawak Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, paid a courtesy call on Annapurna Devi Yadav, India’s Minister of Women and Child Development, as part of efforts to strengthen regional cooperation on women-centred development on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the meeting focused on exchanging views on advancing women’s empowerment and enhancing child development initiatives, reflecting shared priorities between Sarawak and India in social development and community wellbeing.

Also present was the president of the Sarawak Indian Women Association (SIWA), Penghulu Lucy Linggam.

During the courtesy call, Fatimah extended an invitation to Annapurna to attend the South Asian International Women’s Assembly 2026 (SIWA2026), scheduled to be held in Kuching, Sarawak, from Sept 8 to 10.

SIWA2026 is an international platform that convenes women leaders, policymakers, professionals and advocates from South Asia and the global diaspora to promote collaboration and advance discussions on women’s leadership, empowerment, social inclusivity and sustainable development.
